Tow & recovery
Diesel in a petrol car — stop before you turn the key
The filling stations off the A25 have seen this, and so have we. If you have not started the engine, leave it. If you have, stop anyway. We drain what we can and move the car if it will not drive. Do not just pop it to the next roundabout to hide the embarrassment.
On the ground
- Drain when the tank is the problem and the car has not been driven far
- Recovery if it has already been run and should not move another yard
- We ask the two questions that matter: what went in, and did it fire
- No lecture. It is a common night call.
What people ask
I have already started it. Is the engine finished?
Not always, and we are not a warranty company. Do not keep driving it. We get the car somewhere it can be drained or inspected. The mechanical verdict comes after that.
Can you come to the forecourt?
Usually, if the site will let us stand. Say which station — Riverhead, Tonbridge, or the A21 services all have different layouts.
